Adoption Day
|
So, what happens on adoption day? Well, for the dogs and
volunteers, the day begins early, with Lou and Kanette leaving Wheeling
Downs, WV, and volunteer drivers leaving from Leesburg, VA at 7:30 AM
to meet in Frostburg, MD.

Meanwhile, anxious adopters meet with GPA-NoVA volunteers at Canine
Caterers in Chantilly, VA, for some orientation. Don't worry,
we don't start that until around 12:30.

Here, new adopters receive some helpful advice from GPA-NoVA Vice President
Kathe Fritz (standing). Adopters learn what they can expect from their
new dogs over the coming weeks as they adapt to life outside the track.

Meanwhile, up in Frostburg, MD, our volunteers meet with Lou and Kanette
(background, first picture, r to l next to dog hauler) and take possession
of the greyhounds for the long drive back to Chantilly.

While our new adopters are learning all about their new
dogs and filling out paperwork, our intrepid drivers arrive with their
precious cargo.
All the business taken care of, our adopters finally get
to meet their new dogs. After a quick stop at the GPA-NoVA store
for coats, fancy collars, toys, and other fun items, it's off to their
new homes and a well-earned nap.
